Private Dog Training Lessons in Chattanooga, TN

We train the dog by training you — in your house, on your street.

Private lessons put the handling skills into you from day one. We come to your home, work the problem where it actually happens, and leave you with homework you can run in fifteen minutes a day. It's the most involved path we offer, and for owners who want to understand their dog rather than outsource it, it's the one that sticks hardest.

How a private lesson program runs

Each session runs 60–90 minutes, one lesson per week, with homework in between. The between-session practice is where the actual change happens — the lesson is where we correct your mechanics so you're practicing the right thing.

  • Lesson 1 — diagnosis and foundations. We watch your dog do its dog things: greet at the door, walk to the corner, ignore your recall. Then we set equipment, marker words, leash mechanics, and where your feet go. You leave the first session with homework and a clear picture of what's changing.
  • Lesson 2 — layering structure. Place command, threshold work at the door, walking past distractions. We progress when the previous skill is reliable, not on a calendar.
  • Middle lessons — proofing. The Riverwalk, a Northshore café patio, a busy parking lot, a neighborhood full of fence-line barkers. Real environments, real distractions.
  • Final lesson — handoff. This one is about you. We watch you handle the dog in the situations you struggle with, fix your timing, and leave a written 90-day plan.

Who private lessons are right for

  • You want your dog home every night and you're willing to do daily reps.
  • The issue is mostly manners and mechanics — pulling, jumping, door manners, recall — rather than a deep behavior case.
  • You have a puppy and want the routine built into your household from the start.
  • You've done a board & train elsewhere and the results didn't survive contact with your living room. (Very common. Usually a handoff problem, not a dog problem.)

They're the wrong call when your schedule genuinely won't support practice four or five days a week, or when the behavior is severe enough that daily professional reps matter more than owner coaching. In those cases board & train is the honest answer, and we'll say so.

Where we come to you

Our base is at 107 N Lovell Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37411. In-home private lessons cover Hamilton County and the surrounding towns:

In the city, we're regularly in East Brainerd, Brainerd, North Chattanooga, Highland Park, St. Elmo, and Downtown. If you're a bit farther out, ask anyway — sometimes the honest answer is that meeting at a training spot in town gets your dog better reps for the same money, and we'd rather tell you that on the call than after you've booked.

What we don't do

  • No cookie-cutter group classes. Your dog isn't a checkbox on a six-week curriculum.
  • No secret methods. We show our work and explain every tool before we use it.
  • No upsells. We recommend the smallest right-sized package. If three weeks fixes it, we'll say three weeks.
  • No "guaranteed 5-day miracles." We guarantee our effort and the handoff. Results last when owners follow through, which is why the program is built to make that follow-through easy.

We sent our pup to Elizabeth for the 3-week board and train and we could not be happier with how well he has done. Not only did he come back with a strong foundation of all the essential basics, but Elizabeth takes the time to make sure you as the owner are also up to speed.

We are very happy with the training our golden doodle, Smokeybear, received at K9 Ambitions. Elizabeth did a fantastic job. We could tell she loves dogs and is very capable of training them. I am now comfortable with taking Smokeybear on walks.

Our retriever was having some issues jumping on guests and pulling really hard for my daughter and K9 Ambitions gave us a game plan and put us on track. We bought private lessons at first but ended up also doing a board and train.

Private Lessons FAQs

How much do private dog training lessons cost in Chattanooga?
$450 for 3 weeks (3 lessons), $750 for 5 weeks (5 lessons), and $1,200 for 8 weeks (8 lessons), which adds off-leash and e-collar work. One lesson per week, 60–90 minutes each. Any package can be split into installments.
Do you come to my house?
Yes — that's the point. In-home lessons mean the dog learns the right behavior in the exact place the wrong behavior happens: your doorbell, your guests, your street. We cover Chattanooga and Hamilton County, including Signal Mountain, Hixson, Red Bank, East Ridge, Ooltewah, Collegedale, Soddy-Daisy, and Lookout Mountain.
How often are the lessons?
Once a week. The weekly cadence is deliberate — it gives you seven days to practice the homework so the next lesson can build on something real instead of re-teaching last week's step.
Do I need a fenced yard?
No. We work with apartment dogs, condo dogs, and townhouse dogs all the time. Small spaces actually help with crate training and impulse control — the walls force structure.
Can private lessons fix leash reactivity?
Often, yes — most dogs labelled aggressive are reactive, and reactivity is a training problem with a training solution. If it's severe, we may recommend starting with board & train so the dog gets immersive structure first, then coaching you through maintenance. We'll tell you which on the free consult.
What if I fall behind on the homework?
Tell us. We'd rather adjust the plan than have you quietly give up. Lessons are paced on your dog's reliability, not a calendar, and the 5 and 8-week programs include on-call trainer support between sessions for exactly this.

Tell us what's going wrong at home.

Free 30-minute consult. We'll hear your dog's story, tell you honestly which program fits — even if it's the cheapest one — and give you a realistic timeline. No sales script, no pressure.
